Support Initiative reCOVER Crowd-funding Campaign

Through Initiative reCOVER, University of Virginia students and faculty are providing safe, affordable and environmentally conscious transitional housing for those affected by natural disasters.

We are currently raising $15,000 to jumpstart the process of bringing our proven building system to market, both domestically and internationally. With your support, which is being matched dollar-for-dollar up to $15,000 by the U.Va. Licensing & Ventures Group, we can perform the research and analysis needed to make our initiative sustainable.

Please check out the fundraising page below and help spread the word about the campaign "Innovative Housing Helps Natural Disaster Victims reCOVER" and the continued work of faculty and students at the School of Architecture!

DC CANstruction - National Building Museum 8/31-9/07

The annual CANstruction event will be taking place at the National Building Museum this year, from August 31st to September 7th.  The design competition allows local firms to show off their prowess building with canned goods while benefiting the Capital Area Food Bank as all of the food will be donated after the event.

AYAC's own Kathleen Smith is competing with her firm Michael Baker Jr. this year with their version of Diller Scofidio + Renfro's addition for the Hirshhorn Musuem.

You can participate in the event by visiting the museum during the first week of September, or by donating money to the Capital Area Food Bank on behalf any of the teams.  Donations go directly to the food bank and do not cover the cost of each team's structure, but donations do act as votes in the People's Choice Award, one of the categories this year.  Please use the links below for more information and to donate:

Save the Date: Dumbarton Oaks Field Trip - Wednesday August 21 - 5pm

AYAC DC + Baltimore is planning a visit to the lovely Dumbarton Oaks Research Library and Gardens on Wednesday August 21 at 5pm.  Kate Hayes (MLA 2013), our very own young alumna and current fellow with Dumbarton Oaks, will lead an informal tour of the facilities, gardens and her research.  For those who cannot make the 5pm tour, fear not! We will be heading to a nearby Georgetown bar for a happy hour around 6pm.  More details coming soon!
